On 4 November local residents had the chance to participate in a forum to air their concerns regarding dust and noise impacts from coal train movements into Newcastle. The forum was organised by State Member for Newcastle Jodi McKay, in conjunction with the Islington Village Community Group.

The air quality index (AQI) is updated hourly on the DECCW website and is provided to electronic media and published in newspapers serving the lower Hunter. This information is also available by calling the NSW DECC Environment Line on 131 555 (local call cost throughout NSW).
